Desktop PC sales might be down, but our storage needs are increasing at a rather fast pace. When building a PC many experts often tell people to find out how much storage space they need now, then double that number for growth and then double that number ...
The Barracuda 3TB is Seagate's new flagship desktop hard drive with 64MB of cache, a 7200 RPM spindle speed, and huge 1TB platters.
When Seagate around 2011/2012 launched its new generation Barracuda 7200.14 hard disks, we were very impressed. The 2TB model we first tested performed great, as did the 1TB and 3TB versions. Hitachi and Western Digital introduced 4TB disks a long time ...
The Seagate Desktop HDD.15 is a 3.5" form factor, 6Gb/s SATA interface drive with a unique spindle speed of 5,900RPM that hits the 4TB capacity mark and is explicitly designed for desktop implementation. Building on their 3TB Barracuda drive (now rebrande...
This may just be hard drive week here at Gadget Review. Earlier in the week, we looked at the deep well that is the Western Digital WD Black 4TB internal hard drive. It's a worthy deep pocket that allows users to fire and forget when it comes to storage. ...
Back on March 2011, Seagate debuted their original Barracuda XT 3TB hard drive, model ST33000651AS, which used five platters to supply 3000 gigabytes of capacity over a SATA 6.0 GB/s interface. Seven short months later, they've returned to introduce a...
Do you need mass storage? A lot of mass storage? If the answer is yes, then we have just the drive for you courtesy of Seagate Technologies. Seagate has just launched their new “Desktop HDD” line of drives. All are 5900 RPM drives for low power consum...
We had a look with Seagate's NAS HDD earlier. This time we're taking a look at its Desktop HDD counterpart 4TB ST4000DM000 drive. Desktop HDDs are available in capacities up to 5TB. Seagate Desktop HDD 4TB uses an odd spindle spin speed of 5,900 RPM with ...

First, Seagate renamed its Barracuda hard drive family to Desktop HDD.15. Then, it introduced the first model in the new line-up—the Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000. Does Seagate's first massive 4 TB desktop disk deliver the performance we want or disappoint? ...

Storage space is something we all need to store the digital content of our lives. Whether it is family portraits, videos from the family vacation, forms, music, the latest movies downloaded straight from sources unknown(Not that we would do that mind ...

Up until a couple of months ago, the 4TB desktop market was bare. Alright, it's still bare, but it's been made better with the help of the drive we're taking a look at here, Seagate's Desktop HDD.15. The reason? Its pricing, of about ~$190 (it can be foun...
Seagate belongs to the list of most trusted storage solution. It offers hard drive for all type of systems. Today we are going to talk about Seagate 4TB Desktop Hard drive. A high capacity drive, ideally designed for Desktop PC. Everyone needs a reliable ...
Most of our avid readers of course have at least one SSD in their desktop and laptop, but for large volume storage you're still relegated to conventional hard disks. It's almost become a negative connotation - 'conventional' - and it really doesn't do t...

Platter density has been the crutch of hard drive makers in recent history. Increasing spindle speeds can reduce random access latency, but at the expense of cost and thermals. Improvements in random access performance via increasing spindle speed pa...
Hitachi recently started shipping a pair of 4 TB hard drives. We can see that they're pretty expensive, but how do they compare to existing 3 TB models in other ways? It’s time for a comprehensive overview of today's high-capacity hard drive offerings....
It's no secret that Solid State Drives have taken over and cornered the desktop market as far as OS drives are concerned. With this transition, platter based drives have been relegated to mass storage, whether it be as a secondary drive in a desktop ...
Since time began, man has looked at four- and five-platter 3TB hard drives and dared to say, “That’s cool, but when will we get hard drives with one terabyte per platter?” Man is impossible to please. Nevertheless, drive makers have cracked the 1TB-pe...
Seagate has begun a complete top to bottom refresh of their hard drive lineup and the Desktop HDD.15 4TB is their latest addition. This HDD houses impressive amounts of storage space and even though its 5900RPM speed may be slow by today’s standards, ...
While SSDs are the best choice in roles that need high speed (mostly boot drives for the home user), many people need large amounts of storage space, and traditional hard drives still give the best value per gigabyte. Four-terabyte drives are the bigge...
One of our readers asked us to look at the Seagate Barracuda ST5000DM000 5TB 3.5-inch internal desktop hard drive as he bought one off of Amazon and was having some performance issues with the drive. We looked into it and discovered that Seagate does not ...
Platter size may not mean much to everyday consumers but storage enthusiasts know that larger platters are usually a ticket to first class performance. Previously, large capacity drives used 750GB disks to achieve their required space but Seagate’s n...

It would be fair to say that the majority of drives we test nowadays are solid state models, whether they be mSATA, SATA or USB based however that doesn't mean that manufacturers of traditional "mechanical" drives are sitting doing nothing. Far from it as...
